BOE Thrives on Rising Large Area LCD Prices
 
BOE Technology reported net earnings for first-half 2021 would shoot up tenfold to reach CNY12.5-12.7 billion (US$1.934-1.965 billion, a result of higher large area LCD prices. BOE is the world's largest display panel maker in terms of shipment volume and market share.

​In H121, one out of every four display panels are made by BOE, and the company topped the global supply of display screens for five major applications: smartphones, tablets, notebooks, LCD monitors, and TVs. China’s major OLED panel producers, while announcing strong sales and new orders, also reporting a net profit loss due to expenses relating to the development of products for s new customers.

​TCL Technology expects revenues from ¥ 41B to ¥ 43B in Q2’21 ($6.32B - $6.45B), and a net profit to shareholders from ¥ 5.8B to ¥ 6.3B ($908M- $970M). In H121:
  • Revenue was up 66%-68% and the sequential increase was 21%-25%.
  • Net profit was up 95%-96% and the sequential increase was 45%-48%.
 
The Y/Y increase is largely attributed to the poor performance in 2020 change and the acquisition of semiconductor maker Zhonghuan. The sequential  increase is due to LCD TV panel price increases and the addition of the Suzhou Samsung Gen 8.5 LCD line in 2020. TCL Tech reported a 130% Y/Y increase in large LCD panel revenue, a 140% Y/Y increase in net profit and a 24% increase Y/Y in total shipments.
