BOE Shows a 13.6” QD EL Prototype at DisplayWeek
China’s display industry is working on improving its “quantum dot (QD) display” technology. BOE introduced a prototype of EL QD display at DisplayWeek. “Chinese display panel manufacturers are making various attempts in order to secure differentiated technologies.” said BOE. “This is the first time a Chinese QD display was exposed to the public.” QD display expresses various colors even more accurately by converging an organic material OLED and an inorganic material QD. QD display has blue OLED materials deposited and red and green QDs inkjet printed in a photic layer. Samsung Display, which started working on QD display earlier than BOE, introduced its prototype to few customers at its private booth that was set up during CES 2019.

The prototype has a contrast ratio of 110,000 to 1 and 100% color gamut based on NTSC, but only 120 nits and no lifetime measures were provided.
