Amazon to Compete in AR and Foldable Readers

Mark Gurman reports Amazon, not to be left behind by Apple, Facebook and Google is exploring AR glasses and a foldable Kindle e-reader.  Amazon is still at work on many home gadgets like Echo’s and a future home robot, it also has its eyes on mobile devices, according to a person with knowledge of the company’s explorations, including long-term plans for augmented reality glasses and even internal discussion of a Kindle e-reader with a foldable screen. No hints on the display technology, but a foldable e-Ink device is clearly possible and offers the advantages of low cost and long life. But consider the possible use of LTPO OLEDs with a 10Hz or even less frame rate. Reading at the rate of 1 page a minute would mean a frame rate of 1 Hz or less. If a typical display has a battery life of 10 hrs. for a reader it could last 600 to 6,000 hrs.
