​Q119 Smartphone Shipments Down 4.6% Y/Y

Counterpoint reported on smartphone shipments of 345.0m in Q119, down 4.6% Y/Y. Huawei, OPPO and vivo had growth of 50%, 10% and 27% respectively and the remainder of the top 11 plus Others had negative growth. What is remarkable was Huawei’s 50% Y/Y growth compared to drops by Samsung and Apple. One year ago, Huawei had ½ of Samsung’s shipments and in Q119, Huawei has 82% of Samsung’s volume.

IDC showed similar results for Q119, although a bit more negative.

Moreover, over a 1-year period, Huawei’s share has grown from 5% to 17%, while Apple’s share dropped from 18% to 12% with Samsung dropping 3%.
