​Global Automotive Panel Shipments Fall in 1H19

Panel makers expect automotive displays to be a source of growth as car makers increase the number of average # of displays/auto from <1 to 2 or 3. But in1H19 automobile sales in China, were 12.32m units, down 12.4% Y/Y and full year estimates forecast a decline of 8.6%.  Worldwide automotive volume also declined 6.2% Y/Y to 45.6m units in 1H and are expected to be down ~4.4% for the full year.  Car panel unit volumes were only 79m, an of average 1.72 per car, declining 3.4% Y/Y in 1H.  Some panel makers were able to grow their automotive panel business as market leader LG Display was up 35% in 1H and Tianma, who saw 11% growth as they more deeply penetrated the Chinese automotive display market,
