Two OLED iPhones and 1 LCD iPhone in 2018 but LCD Version to Sell the Most
February 12, 2018 KGI securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo reiterated earlier claims of two OLED and one LCD iPhone this year, but, Kuo believes that the LCD smartphone will outsell the OLED versions. Apple is rumored to be launching a 6.1″ LCD and 5.8″ + 6.5″ OLED iPhones this year. This interest in the 6.1″ iPhone will boost sales for Apple’s LCD suppliers who have seen tough fortunes of late. The increased popularity of this 6.1″ LCD iPhone could boost sales for Apple’s long time supply chain partner, Catcher. The firm will supply aluminum frames for the smartphone. Kuo also has some disappointing news for the larger 6.5″ OLED iPhone, dubbed as the iPhone X Plus. LG Display is expected to provide Apple with the display and according to Kuo, it might fall short of the required quantity. The OLED iPhones will also feature stacked boards, allowing more space for components and making them compact at the same time. The LCD iPhone 9 will not feature this, and will instead stick to a traditional single layer board design. Kuo’s prediction that the LCD iPhone 9 will outsell its counterparts sounds a bit counter-intuitive if you ask us, unless, Apple’s customer base desires larger screen sizes over OLED. Even then, 6.1″ should prove adequate for most folks. The 10th anniversary edition of the Samsung Galaxy S series phones is expected to launching March and according to rumors out of China, Samsung is gearing up for a name change for their flagship line, with Galaxy S devices to be called Galaxy X devices from next year (2019). The report, which was published by GizChina citing “a source from Korea”, says that the company’s 10th generation of the ‘Galaxy S series’, which ordinarily should be called the Samsung Galaxy S10 will get renamed as ‘Galaxy X series’ from 2019. The plan behind the renaming and rebranding has become necessary as the company wants a simpler naming scheme to avoid having unusual names such as S11 or S15 in the future. The Galaxy X has always been used to describe Samsung’s mythical foldable smartphone, which we now believe will be launched this year. |
